“Wooden Fire Screen”
The fire screen was found in an antique shop. After cleaning and polishing the center panel was removed. The panel was decorated with 3 Asian bird prints from a calendar “Birds in Landscape”using rice paper as a background. The whole board was first gessoed and sanded then sponged with yellow oxide and burnt sienna. The rice paper was measured and cut to require size, sponged with burnt sienna, iridescent copper then glued onto the panel leaving a border around the edge. The bird prints were centred and glued onto the rice paper. Strips of black quilling paper were used to make the border around the rice paper. The panel was lacquered with Matisse Final Finish Varnish, sanded and polished with micro mesh.
